Yucatan Driver's License Requirements & Fees

If you have not registered your address* with INM, you MUST do this FIRST before applying for a driver's license.

FIRST TIME Requirements (original PLUS 2 very clear, legible copies):

• Forma Migratoria ID: temporary or permanent residence "green card" (front & back)
• Valid Passport
• Proof of Address: JAPAY water bill (does not have to be in the applicant's name)
• Birth Certificate (sometimes they ask for this, sometimes they don't)
• CURP Documento Migratorio (printed)
• SSP letter validated & stamped by INM Immigration

PLEASE NOTE: This is a 3 day process. Consecutive days may not be possible. However, we do our best to ensure the most efficient schedule we can.

Expert Assistance Professional Fees (prices in U.S.):

• First Time Driver's License - Couples*
  • $200 U.S.
    • includes 30 minutes parallel parking practice for EACH person
    • if you need extra time, it is billed at $50 U.S. per hour

Your Fees Include:

• Driver's License Information Package (includes step by step instructions AND practice question examples)
• State of Yucatan Driver's License Study Guide - English
• State of Yucatan Road Signs
• Mérida Driving Guide

*If you fail the written test, you are not allowed to proceed to the driving test. We offer a one-time courtesy to return with you on a mutually agreed upon date to retake the written test.

*If you are using our car (2019 Kia Sedona**) for the driving portion of the test, we offer it as a one-time courtesy. If you fail the driving portion of the test, we can return with you on a mutually agreed upon date to retake this test for $50 U.S. per person.

**If you feel this car is too large for you, we suggest renting a car or borrowing a car from a friend.

SSP - Public Security Office Fees per person (paid directly to the Public Security Office - cash & credit cards accepted - prices in pesos):

• 2 years: $692 MX
  • first time license can only apply for 2 years intially
• 3 years: $1,039 MX
• 5 years: $1,848 MX
